Marxism is the name for a set of political and economic ideas . The basic ideas are that: The world is split into multiple classes (groups) of people. The two main classes are the working class and the capitalist, or ruling, class. The working class is exploited by the ruling class.
Marx inherited the ideas of class and class struggle from utopian socialism and the theories of Henri de Saint-Simon. These had been given substance by the writings of French historians such as Adolphe Thiers and François Guizot on the French Revolution of 1789.
