Mary was born on February 13, 1457 in Brussels at the ducal castle of Coudenberg. Her father Charles was the son of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy and Isabel of Portugal. His title at the time was Count of Charolais. Her mother was Isabella, daughter of the Duke of Bourbon. On the day Mary was born, her father had left to go hunting.
