In MGM's sequel to the original hit, Johnny Weissmuller (title character) and Maureen O'Sullivan (Jane) having a swim and yes, she's quite naked underwater, though it's really her swim double Josephine McKim, in this restored version, not seen in 1934, of Tarzan And His Mate.
In the restored version of the scene, Tarzan is depicted wearing his traditional loincloth while Jane appears fully nude, her costume having been torn off when Tarzan playfully tosses her from a tree to the water below. The scene as it exists today is approximately four minutes in duration.
Although O'Sullivan's skimpy costume suggests the ravishing Irish beauty is not shy about showing her body, the underwater nudes are performed by body double and Olympic swimmer Josephine McKim in order to provide a graceful quality to the images. These have been restored to the movie when the picture was rereleased for DVD distribution in 1986.
