Former U.S. Olympic standout Maureen O'Toole-Purcell joined the California women's water polo team as a volunteer assistant coach in September 2007. O'Toole-Purcell was Cal's first women's water polo head coach, leading the team for three years from 1996-98. Her squads finished as national runners-up all three years.

Our Mission. Founded in 1999 by Maureen O’Toole Purcell and Jim Purcell, Diablo Alliance Water Polo was formed to encourage girls and boys to learn the great game of water polo and excel in a fun and competitive team environment.
Career. In over 30 years in the sport, she set multiple firsts for women in water polo, received all the top honors, and in her time was recognized as one of the best water polo players in the world. O'Toole started playing water polo during the swimming off-season at age thirteen.
