MC Skat Kat is an animated rapping feline who was featured in the 1989 music video for Paula Abdul's single "Opposites Attract." He danced back and forth with Abdul, in a deliberate nod to Gene Kelly's dance with Jerry Mouse in the film Anchors Aweigh. Disney animator Chris Bailey, between feature films, animated the character.
While the character starred in a second solo video "Skat Strut" and his own album The Adventures Of MC Skat Kat And The Stray Mob (both 1991), he quickly faded. While still riding the initial crest of popularity, however, he made an unspeaking cameo, without Abdul, in the PSA music video "Yakety Yak - Take It Back," which also aired in occasional episodes of Sesame Street.
•Paula Abdul, in her appearance in The Muppets Mayhem episode "Eight Days a Week," wears a Skat Kat t-shirt. She claims that Lips introduced her to Skat Kat.
