Overview. Located in Maricopa County, the McDowell Mountains rise to the east of Scottsdale, Arizona about 20 miles northeast of downtown Phoenix. The range is about 10 miles long and is situated on S/SE trend (from north to south) and is over 5 miles wide at its largest stretch.
Choose from any of the major trailheads listed below to connect to more than 225+ miles of trails of Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The Preserve is open every day from sunrise to sunset, except July 4th when it closes at noon. See PRESERVE HOURS for times and temporary closures.
