'Fire Mountain', Javanese: ꦒꦸꦤꦸꦁ ꦩꦼꦫꦥꦶ, romanized: Gunung Měrapi) is an active stratovolcano located on the border between the province of Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is the most active volcano in Indonesia and has erupted regularly since 1548.

Merapi (“Mountain of Fire”) rises to 9,551 feet (2,911 meters) and has steep slopes with dense vegetation on its lower flanks. It is the most active of Indonesia’s 130 active volcanoes. One of its largest eruptions occurred in 1006 and spread ash throughout central Java.
