Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist science-fiction silent film directed by Fritz Lang and written by Thea von Harbou in collaboration with Lang [6] [7] from von Harbou's 1925 novel of the same name (which was intentionally written as a treatment ). The movie has a plot that defies common sense, but its very discontinuity is a strength. It makes "Metropolis" hallucinatory--a nightmare without the reassurance of a steadying story line.
Fritz Lang (1890–1976) was an Austrian film director, producer and screenwriter. In Lang's early career he worked primarily as a screenwriter, finishing film scripts in four to five days. [1] Lang directed major German films of the silent and early sound eras including Metropolis (1927) and M (1931) respectively.
