We are the Michigan Army National Guard. As a component of the U.S. Army, we are an entity of the state. We defend our country when called to action, but what makes us a unique branch in the military is our duty to protect and serve the state of Michigan.
The Michigan Army National Guard is the Army component of the Michigan National Guard and a reserve component of the United States Army. During the Cold War, the 156th Signal Battalion was federalized on 1 October 1962 at its home stations in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center
Location:Alpena, MI In Use:1941-1945; 1954-Present Overall Mission:Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center closed briefly at the end of WWII and reopened in 1954. Currently, it functions as a training and readiness center for the Air National Guard.
