Mike Newell (born May 26, 1951) is an American men's college basketball coach, most recently serving as head coach at Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Newell played college basketball for Sam Houston State. His coaching break came as an assistant to Billy Tubbs at Oklahoma, who hired him away from San Jacinto College.

Men's Basketball. Newell came to UALR prior to the 1984-85 season after serving as an assistant coach under Billy Tubbs at Oklahoma, and made an immediate impact as head coach of the Trojans. In just his second season at UALR, Newell led the Trojans to a 23-11 record and the first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history.
