An ordered pair, as is typically meant in beginning algebra (though there are some more advanced meanings you'll get into later), is the x and y coordinates of a point, stated in that order. Thus, (3,4) is the ordered pair representing the point at x=3 and y=4. (4,3) is not the same, that is the point at x=4 and y=3.
