So I took matters into my own hands and have painstakingly listed out of the States in the U.S., their two-letter abbreviations, region, and their capital cities.
No two states may have the same abbreviation. If there are two words in the state's name, take the first letter of each. (NY, SD, WV, etc) Take the first two letters of the state name to form the abbreviation. Take the first and last letter of the state name to form the abbreviation. The first two rules are never broken.
