Monmouth Castle resides on a bluff overlooking a vital crossing of the Rivers Monnow and Wye in Monmouthshire, Wales. The original earth and timber ringwork castle was built between 1067 and 1069 by William FitzOsbern, Earl of Hereford.

History. Monmouth Castle was built by William Fitz Osbern shortly after the Norman invasion. He was one of the key supporters of William the Conqueror and played a key role in convincing the Norman barons to invade England.
