Moominvalley Season 1 premiered in 2019 and it focuses on the main character of the series, Moomintroll, and how he perceives the world around him. As he grows up, the focus shifts to the Moomin family in Season 2 which premiered in 2020. The third season was launched in 2022 with a theme of community.

Moominvalley was officially renewed for a third series on 2 November 2020. It was announced on the Moominvalley Twitter account that the voice actor of Moomintroll - Taron Edgerton - would be replaced with a new actor Jack Rowan for series three.
