Apr 8, 2024 · A day hike up and down Mount Whitney can take 20 hours. Some climbers camp on the trail, to break up the hike, but doing so requires an overnight permit. We had to do it all in one day.

No new permits will be issued in 2023, and the only way to secure a new reservation is to purchase one from the official transfer list. Campground reservation dates have not yet been announced for 2024 but typically open annually on February 1st.
