Baldy towers over the San Gabriel Mountains and is the highest point in the range. The far-reaching panoramic views found at the exposed 10,064-foot summit attract plenty of hikers. Two major routes go to the top: Baldy Bowl – Sky Hut Trail. Baldy Notch – Devil’s Backbone Trail.
The trail begins at Mt Baldy Village and takes you through Bear Canyon, with its creek and rich canopy of Oak, Bay, Cedar, Fir, and Pine. Bear Canyon emerges to open chaparral, which takes you to the ridge with an open Conifer forest and amazing views.
At 10,068 feet, Mount Baldy is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains (and the highest point in Los Angeles County). The hike itself is about 6.5 miles long and climbs 2,300 feet.
