Muzio Attendolo earned the nickname Sforza ("Strong") on the battlefield, which became the family surname under his son Francesco I Sforza, who was the Duke of Milan from 1450 to 1466. Francesco I Sforza had as sibling Carlo, who took the religious name of Gabriele. Biography. Carlo was born on 15 June 1423, in San Giorgio La Molara.

Biography. Born in Lavello, Basilicata, Tartaglia trained at the military school of Ceccolo Broglia and served the Republic of Florence. On 26 June 1402, he fought in the Battle of Casalecchio; he was charged with overseeing the bridge of Reno, but he left his position to participate in the combat, leaving the camps without any defense on his side.
