  1. Aug 5, 2022 · 10 Things You Can Do to Improve Your Life Right Now. Self-improvement tips. When to seek help. Recap. You can improve yourself and your life by focusing on things that are good for you,...

    • When it comes right down to it, relationships and love matter more than anything (Fredrickson, 2013).
    • Strive to be a stand-up person.
    • Invite moments of quiet into the day (Kabat-Zinn, 2012).
    • Let yourself be readily awed by nature’s majesty—the sunrise, the wind, a rainbow, babies, snow, the changing cycles of the moon, the lakes and oceans (Kaufman, 2020).
    • Quality matters. One important factor in establishing sustainable movement is the quality of the exercise. What I mean is that the form we use when lifting, running, jumping, etc.
    • Mindset is important. Often, it isn’t any given experience that is a problem, but rather the way we think about or approach it that causes the problems.
    • Listen to your body. Our bodies are smart. They have adapted using years and years of data to be able to tell us what feels good (physically and emotionally), what we need to feel better, and what to avoid.
    • Challenge myself. The human body is designed to find ways to make things easier. Our bodies try to conserve as much energy as possible because it has been evolutionarily advantageous to save our energy for times of danger.
    • Be grateful for what you have. When you stop to remember what you have instead of worrying about what you may not be getting, it changes your perspective for the better.
    • Start your day the night before. The most successful people I know end their workday by making a list of what they have to do the following day or two ahead.
    • Be ready to grow up. Adults have the ability to learn to delay gratification, but we also have a choice as to how to behave when things don’t go our way.
    • Drop the attitude. If you think the world owes you a living, you might want to reevaluate your position. It is quite possible that, by feeling entitled, you are pushing away things and people you might like.
    • The bills are getting paid. It may seem simplistic to some, but if you have lost a job and have had to reinvent yourself, taking care of the basics can feel pretty good.
    • People praise you for your inner strength. Take it in when other people compliment you on getting through your challenges. Sometimes we brush off such compliments, because accepting them reminds us of what we've been through, which can trigger bad feelings.
    • Even though you may still feel sad inside, you are not crying much anymore and you generally feel a little better. Embrace that you are doing better, even if it's only little things that you can see at the moment.
    • You are getting more done. With emotional healing, we also get extra energy and some creativity thrown in. As you get back to your old self, you can take pride in your productivity and enjoy the process more than you have.
