During her two-year term, Barragán successfully stood up to a powerful oil company and stopped a drilling proposal in her community. In 2016, Nanette decided to take her advocacy to the national level. Nanette is Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and a member of the Progressive Caucus.
Barragán then joined Latham & Watkins LLP, where she worked on a variety of cases from land use to securities litigation. While at Latham, she was the lead attorney in an immigration asylum case spanning three years for a child and mother from Guatemala ; withholding of removal was granted.
