Jun 1, 2023 · If in October 2023, you will be a 12th grader or will have graduated from high school, you are eligible to begin the application process for the USNA Class of 2028 by submitting a Preliminary Application. The Preliminary Application is NOT savable and should take 15 - 30 minutes to complete.

Home-schooled students make up an increasing number of applicants for admission to the Naval Academy each year. Each applicant is reviewed on a case-by-case basis, but we generally look for the same academic prerequisites as traditional high school applicants.
Starting in December of your junior year (if not sooner): Take the ACT and SAT exams early and often. If you do not score well on one, take the other. The Naval Academy combines the highest math and verbal scores from either test to evaluate your competitiveness.
The Naval Academy’s combined academic, military and physical development programs demand a lot of effort, requiring you to spend more time on campus than the typical civilian college student. But midshipmen enjoy Christmas and summer vacations (leave) plus shorter periods of time off (liberty).
