This consists of $3,000 from the State of Tennessee and $3,000 from the University of Tennessee. Please note, however, that the money coming from UT could be made up of merit and/or need-based awards.
Most Ned McWherter recipients are also awarded a merit-based Admissions scholarship, such as the Presidential Scholars Scholarship, for $3,000 or more. In these instances, the Admissions scholarship is considered to be Tech's match for the Ned McWherter Scholarship.

(8) Scholarship recipients must use the Ned McWherter Scholars award for educationrelated - expenses. Ned McWh erter Scholars awards shall be first applied to tuition and fees, room and board, and the excess, if any, shall be distributed to the recipient provided the student remains eligible according to this rule.
