Little is known about Schmidtke outside of his date and place of birth. He graduated Beloit College in 1964 and was a member of Beta Theta PI fraternity. Schmidtke started acting in 1973 and has since become a prolific actor. He was nominated for two different Joseph Jefferson Awards in 1989 and 1991.
Schmidtke portrayed Austin Chapman, an accomplice of a serial killer, in the Season Five episode "The Internet Is Forever".
