Aug 4, 2023 · In popular memory, appeasement is primarily associated with British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain (in office, 1937–1940). However, appeasement of Nazi Germany was also the policy of his predecessors, James Ramsay MacDonald (1929–1935) and Stanley Baldwin (1935–1937).
In May 1937 he succeeded Baldwin as Prime Minister, and was elected Conservative leader. War was brewing in Europe and had already exploded in Spain.
