Our History. 1955: Provisional charter granted by the New York State Board of Regents. First campus opens in New York City. Alexander Schure, Ph.D., Ed.D., is New York Tech's first president. 1959: New York Institute of Technology awards first degrees; “teaching machines” introduced in physics, electronics and mathematics.
