Sep 25, 2015 · NEXRAD systems are Doppler weather radars that detect and produce over 100 different long-range and high-altitude weather observations and products, including areas of precipitation, winds, and thunderstorms.
Its technical name is WSR-88D (Weather Surveillance Radar, 1988, Doppler). NEXRAD detects precipitation and atmospheric movement or wind. It returns data which when processed can be displayed in a mosaic map which shows patterns of precipitation and its movement.
Current NEXRAD radar covering the United States, southern Canada and northern Mexico. Data is quality controlled MRMS data, and colorized to identify precipitation type. Snowfall and rain accumulation estimates also provided. Imagery provided by F5Weather.
