Limited City of Ann Arbor metered street parking is available at Nichols Arboretum on Washington Hts. and on Observatory St. Parking charges apply Mon-Sat 8 am-6 pm; free Sundays and holidays. Visitors may park in the University of Michigan blue lot M28 on Washington Hts. for free after 5 pm weekdays and on weekends.
Map 1- Nichols Arboretum and some of its primary trails are shown on Map 1. "Nichols Arcade," along the river, is a figment of Expedia.com's imagination. This is really Nichols Drive, or "the river road." (Nichols Arcade is a mall near campus between State Street and Maynard Street.)
As with most good birding areas, there is no map of Nichols Arboretum that shows all the trails. The best approach to birding the Arb for the first time is probably to start with a good general idea of the layout (and keep a map in your pocket) and start walking!
Nichols Arboretum Loop Trail is a 2.6 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Ann Arbor, Michigan that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

The Arboretum Nature Area is 34 acres within the University of Michigan’s 123 acre Nichols Arboretum. Located between Geddes Rd. and the Huron River, there are entrances at Geddes Rd., Riverview Ct., Washington Heights, and the UM Medical Center lower lot (Lot M29) off Medical Center Dr. Parking is limited and often restricted at these entrances.
