     Check if all files are available.

     Targets -> Build Phases -> Compile Sources

     If you see faint files, then they need to be removed or added.

     Under "Build Settings" - "Architectures" check that you don't have "arm64" excluded under "Excluded architectures" for release, as all new iOS devices use this architecture.

     I'm also get the same error. Let me share how I fix it.

     I write cpp code on vscode. I deleted a .cpp/.h file that I didn't need anymore a few days ago. Everything nice and happy when I working on vscode.

     ".app is not a valid path" appeared when i switched back to the xcode to verification function. I was confused. (I don't immediately remember my delete operation a few days ago)

     The key isn't the dialog showed "Executable Not Found", Switch to "Issue Navigator" and drag to the bottom... Now the ERROR shows up in front of U:

     Finally the solution is :

     TARGETS -> Select your ‘Target' -> Build Phases -> Compile Sources :

     Select the ".cpp" file that had been delete, then "Remove Items" by click the second "-" button in the lower left corner.

     I simply had to use a Distribution Profile of type Ad Hoc. The Distribution Profile the app was using was of type App Store as it was what was needed to create a build archive for Test Flight.

     I do wish the error message had been more informative and less generic. Multiple types of issues seem to result in the same error message.

     Useful References:

     • This provides useful info about using the Device Log and debugging Entitlements that helped me start getting somewhere. My custom Entitlements and enabled Capabilities for the Bundle Identifier matched, so I couldn't figure out what else to try initially. The Device Log gave me no info, but taking out the Entitlements file worked, and it went from there.
     • This reassured me that my one custom entitlement that's different between Debug and Release mode, APS Environment, is using the correct value of "production" even though it was causing the installation to fail with the (then App Store) Distribution Profile.
     • This provides detailed explanation on each Provisioning Profile Type.

     Basically it could be because of this:

     your iphone is not recognized by the provisioning portal

     Solution: 1) In Xode:Goto-->Build-->clean all targets.

     2) In "Groups & Files" -->Target --> expand it --> right click your app and select Clean "you app"

     3) Goto->Window-->Organizer

     4) In the Devices tab on the left, select you iphone

     5) In the Provisioning section of the selected iphone delete all the current profiles (if any)

     6) Plug out your iphone and replug it in.

     7) Goto->Window-->Organizer-->right click your iphone -->Add device to provisioning portal

     8) Now make sure you have selected the appropriate code signing identity in edit project settings -> build --> code signing

     BUild and run ......

     Ok, so I solved this, somehow in trying to build for the app store I changed the build config for the "run" scheme from debug to release.. and naturally release was using a distribution cert.. which wasn't (and can't be) installed on my device.

     I hate xcode 4. (this aspect of it :P)

     What is a scheme anyway? :S

     Finally i could solve the problem. One of my colleagues has revoked the developer certificate at iOS Provisioning Portal for his test apps. for fixing; i removed the existing developer certificate at my keychain, requested a new certificate with the existing private key, revoked the certificate from provisioning portal and submitted the newly requested certificate.then i downloaded and installed it.

     now i can debug my app on my device :)
