I use obs and I rarely stream. 9/10 uses are just for recording. It works well for it, just make sure you select "optimize for recording" when you are setting it up. Mine is currently handling a webcam, game capture, controller overlay, and all my audio stuff. I do everything in post though.
I really need help using OBS to record DRM protected videos. I swear I am not pirating audio files or video files from iTunes or Netflix. I want to record a medical video from a website but when I try recording, a black screen pops up thereby blocking the video but I am able to record the audio from the video file.

Window capture just captures a (specified) windows contents. Game capture just captures a single fullscreen application (that is not on the blacklist list explorer.exe is). Display capture just captures what is displayed on your monitor. Also you need to ensure that your captures have their window suitably placed on the capture canvas.
