The group was formed in Greenville, South Carolina, by James Davis in 1928, a year before the Great Depression. The members were Barney Gipson (lead), Davis (tenor), Barney Parks (baritone), and J.B. Matterson (bass). In their early teens they sang in the Bethel Church of God in the junior chorus.

Bio. It was the spring of 1966 in St. Albans, West Virginia where five men met in a refrigeration school to share their common love of Southern Gospel music. For over 56 years The Lordsmen have traveled the East Coast spreading the word through song. This group brings tight family harmony with an anointed message.
