Nov 22, 2002 · Due to customers demands for louder guitars, Ditson asked Martin to come up with a real big-size guitar. The first specimen was produced 1916. There is an official record of 33 Martin-made Ditson Dreadnoughts between 1916 and 1930. They carried the designations Ditson 111 (26 specimen) and 222. (7 specimen).

In 1845, John C. Haynes came to work for Ditson as an office boy. By 1857 he was a partner and the company changed its name accordingly to Oliver Ditson & Company.
