Any point on the Cartesian or the coordinate plane is written as a combination of two values. For example, the point (x, y) when represented on the coordinate plane describes the distance of the point in relation to the origin. So this point (x, y) is called an ordered pair.
An ordered pair, as is typically meant in beginning algebra (though there are some more advanced meanings you'll get into later), is the x and y coordinates of a point, stated in that order. Thus, (3,4) is the ordered pair representing the point at x=3 and y=4.
