This is a writer's picture, no less than a visual experience that approaches its subject as tactfully as the messengers do.
Nov 11, 2009 · This presents the movie with an insurmountable problem, and though Moverman does as good a job as any novice filmmaker (his writing credits are rather amazing -- see the interview below -- but this is his first stint behind the camera), there's no way he could create anything as powerful as these reverse "annunciations."
Feb 18, 2010 · Moverman: Definitely Salesman, by the Maysles brothers. The Maysles were kind of like my first job in New York, so I saw all their movies when I was working there as an office PA. Salesman came to mind because it felt like The Messenger is a movie about people who come to the door.
