While this room now contains an interesting introductory exhibition about Osborne House, the rooms beyond have been preserved as they were when the Royal Family lived in them - to tell the story of the era and the family.
Visitors can see even Osborne’s most private rooms, including the children’s nursery and the bedroom where Victoria died in 1901. The Italianate design of the house, in which Albert was closely involved, became known as ‘the Osborne style’ and was imitated throughout the British empire.

The opulence has to be seen to be believed, and Victoria was only using it as a holiday retreat! Back in the day the isle of Wight was the most fashionable place in the empire.

Osborne House is located on the Isle of Wight, 1 mile southeast of East Cowes. Ryde Esplanade train station is 7 miles away, while East Cowes ferry port is 1.5 miles away.
The Osborne estate, then owned by Lady Isabella Blachford, was recommended to them by the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel (1788–1850). The estate was initially leased, then bought in May 1845 for £28,000. As the existing house was too small, an extension was required.
