Ottawa County (/ ˈ ɒ t ə w ə / OT-ə-wə) is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the United States 2020 Census, the population was 296,200. The county seat is Grand Haven. The county is named for the Ottawa Nation, was set off in 1831 and organized in 1837.

Ottawa. Ottawa County was named after the local Native American tribe. The county was organized in 1837 but was considered a county just a few years before Michigan was a state. Rix Robinson, a fur trader, was considered an early, non-native settler to the area. There are seventeen townships in Ottawa County.
