Apr 3, 2024 · Another Gothic stronghold was built in the second half of the fourteenth century thanks to Otto of Pilica - the starost and trusted advisor of Casimir the Great. Through his daughter Elżbieta, the castle in the fifteenth century was inherited by Otto's grandson - John - the first of the Pilecki lines.
It is believed that the hill on which the castle is located was already inhabited before our era. The castle was destroyed during the fights between Władysław Łokietek and the Czech king Wacław. Then, in the middle of the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt by Otto of Pilcza.

Pilcza Castle and Smolen Reserve – The castle in Smolen probably stood as wooden defence already in the 13th century. It was destroyed during the fights between in 1300. In the mid-14th century, a new brick stronghold was probably built by Otto of Pilcza of the Topór coat of arms.
