Full spoilers follow for Peaky Blinders Season 5, which premiered in the US via Netflix on October 4. The season was released in the UK on BBC One on August 25.

Peaky Blinders, centered around the notorious Birmingham gang led by Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy), closed Season 5 with a particularly shocking reveal and a powerful betrayal. The season finale also featured a riveting chat between Tommy and Winston Churchill, Polly's resignation from the gang, the murder of Aidan Gillen's Aberama Gold, and the return of Grace (Annabelle Wallis), tempting Tommy to join her in death. To break it all down, IGN spoke to Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight about the climactic Season 5 ending, and what's in store for the final two seasons.

After you finish binging Peaky Blinders, here's everything else new to Netflix in October in the video below:

At the end of Season 4, Tommy shot Alfie Solomons point-blank in the face, which would usually be a fatal wound. So it was quite surprising to see Alfie alive and (mostly) well during the Season 5 finale, titled "Mr. Jones." Knight jokingly declared Hardy's character as "indestructible."

"Tom loves the character of Alfie and really didn't want to not be part of it," Knight told IGN. "I felt it was important given the territory we've been uncovering in terms of the rise of fascism and racism, that we have a seasoned character like Alfie to be around [the Peaky Blinders]. And I think the response from the fans has been fantastic because people have cheered as if a goal has been scored in soccer."

One of Season 5's most enjoyable and surprising interactions took place between Tommy and future Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill. Like Alfie, Churchill and Tommy appeared to share a mutual respect for one another, even though they come from very different backgrounds."There's a lot of parallels with Winston and Tommy: They smoke a lot, they dr...

The ghosts of Tommy's past come back to haunt him in Season 5, and Knight chose Tommy's greatest love, Grace Burgess (Annabelle Wallis), who was tragically killed in Season 3, to be his tormentor. At the end of the finale, Tommy's last encounter with Grace ends with him putting a gun to his head, so it's clear that he's beginning to lose his mind. "[Grace's death] was almost like the second biggest trauma, if not the biggest trauma of his life," Knight told IGN. "And so as the cracks begin to appear, I felt that it was important that he begins to see her again as a possible way out."

Peaky Blinders made it into our 50 best TV opening credit scenes from 2008-2018. Find out who else made our list in the video below:

Michael's (Finn Cole) return from America after failing to protect the Peaky Blinders' money from the financially devastating stock market crash in 1929 appeared to be signalling the downfall of the aspiring entrepreneur. However, by the end of Season 5, Michael and his new wife Gina (Ana Taylor-Joy) were looking to take the aging street gang into a new era with the potential to make a lot more money. Is Michael ready to take the crown from Tommy?

"Michael does believe he's the new generation, and he can do things a different way, and Tommy is living in the past," Knight said. "The question is, is he right? Is he smart enough? I wanted to set this up for the next season. Now you have a potential conflict within the family and with Polly as the bridge in between."

Peaky Blinders will be back for two more seasons on BBC One in the UK, and Netflix in the US. What did you think of Peaky Blinders Season 5? Weigh in below, and share your predictions for Season 6.
