Jun 27, 2012 · Alex Kurtzman, who directed and co-wrote this film, says it is loosely based on a true story, his own. I don't suppose it's a close parallel, but for the sake of discussion, at which point does Sam's keeping the secret qualify as a sadistic manipulation of his sister?

Odd how the movies that claim to be "Inspired By A True Story" usually feel the most contrived. I don't know the real life events PEOPLE LIKE US is based on, but if they actually happened in a way that even remotely resembles what transpires onscreen here, I will eat *both* of Werner Herzog's shoes.
