After her signature, she adds “your rare gem.” This Peanuts strip was originally published on May 9, 1982.

A dish of candy inspired the name for Peppermint Patty, who debuted in 1966. “I just created the character and gave her the name so that no one else would steal it before I used it,” Schulz said. Years after her introduction to Peanuts, Schulz gave Peppermint Patty a surname—Reichardt.
