As of 2021, the Major League Baseball definition of a perfect game is largely a side effect of the decision made by the major leagues' Committee for Statistical Accuracy on September 4, 1991, to redefine a no-hitter as a game in which the pitcher or pitchers on one team throw a complete game of nine innings or more without surrendering a hit.
Jun 30, 2023 · A perfect game is when a pitcher faces 27 batters and allows no hits in a game. It has to go at least nine innings. Only 24 times has a perfect game been thrown in MLB history, with seven of them by Hall of Fame pitchers. The most recent perfect game was by Domingo German in 2023.
The latest the winning run has been scored in a perfect game is the seventh inning—this occurred in the games of Hunter (bottom), Witt (top), and Martínez (top). Seven perfect-game pitchers have also thrown at least one additional no-hitter: Young, Joss, Bunning, Koufax, Johnson, Buehrle, and Halladay.
