Peter Ewart Ohm (4 April 1923 – 6 December 2016), known professionally as Peter Vaughan, was an English character actor known for many supporting roles in British film and television productions. He also acted extensively on stage. He is perhaps best known for his role as Grouty in the sitcom Porridge and its 1979 film adaptation.
Born Peter Ohm in 1923, he began on the stage and didn't enter films until 1959, well into his thirties. Married in 1952 to rising actress Billie Whitelaw , Peter was primarily in the background at first, offering a cheapjack gallery of thugs, unsmiling cops, and foreign agents in movies.
