Synthesis of PCP from PCA via 1-phenylcyclohexanol (PCOH) The PCOH starting material can be purchased or prepared by reaction of phenyllithium or phenyl grignard with cyclohexanone. This alcohol is then be transformed into the amine by reaction with sodium azide (~90% yield) followed by reduction.
1. Pour 10cm³ of cyclohexanol into the 50cm³ round bottom flask. 2. Using a graduated dropping pipette, add 4cm³ of concentrated phosphoric acid to the flask. 3. Cyclohexylamine is used as an intermediate in synthesis of other organic compounds. It is the precursor to sulfenamide -based reagents used as accelerators for vulcanization . The amine itself is an effective corrosion inhibitor .
