Jun 6, 2007 · Pierre de Rigaud de Vaudreuil de Cavagnial was the son of Philippe de Rigaud de Vaudreuil, governor of New France between 1703 and 1725. He followed his father’s footsteps in the colonial service by joining the Troupes de la Marine. After rising through the ranks, he was made governor of Trois-Rivières, a role he held between 1733 and 1742.

Jul 11, 2023 · The Count’s grandfather, Philippe de Rigaud, marquis de Vaudreuil, served as governor-general of New France for over two decades in the early 18th century. Philippe’s oldest son (the Count’s uncle), Pierre de Rigaud, marquis de Vaudreuil-Cavagnial, was governor of Louisiana in the 1740s and governor-general of New France in the 1750s.

Philippe de Rigaud de Vaudreuil, Marquis de Vaudreuil, governor general of New France 1703-25 (b probably near Revel, France c 1643; d at Québec C 10 Oct 1725). Vaudreuil served in the French army with the Mousquetaires from 1672 and distinguished himself in campaigns in Flanders.
