I do not, however, find the actor playing George Villiers convincing. He's not funny (although he has a sense of humor) or neurotic or cerebral, has zero narcissistic tendencies, no uniquely deep reserves of sensitivity, etc.

The mom can't accept that the daughter is going to die and Death as the bird is guiding her in preparing for the daughter's death. Yeah that was pretty obvious, the death bird is a little ham-handed.
