Aug 3, 2022 · Nestled in the Portland, Oregon’s West Hills neighborhood is Pittock Mansion, a Victorian chateau-style abode — with a haunted history. Built by Oregonian publisher Henry Pittock, the home once symbolized the heights of Portland’s wealthy elite, but after just four years in its gilded walls, both of homeowners died.
PORTLAND’S HOUSE ON THE HILL. Pittock Mansion is a 16,000 square foot French Renaissance style home. It was designed by architect Edward T. Foulkes who trained at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the French École des Beaux-Arts.
The Pittock Mansion Society is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire understanding and stewardship of Portland history through Pittock Mansion. The Society also works with Portland Parks & Recreation to maintain and preserve the historic buildings.

Pittock Mansion has one of the best views in town. Nestled high in the West Hills, Pittock Mansion’s viewpoint overlooks Portland’s skyline from 1,000 feet up. On a clear day, enjoy vistas of five Cascade Mountains: Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, Mount Rainer, and Mount Jefferson.

Once the private home of the Portland pioneer Pittock family, this 22-room house was designed by architect Edward Foulkes and completed in 1914. The mansion sits 1,000 feet above sea level on 46 acres and commands a view of five mountains in the Cascade Range.
