Part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, between the Saône and the Rhône in the 2 nd district of Lyon, Place Bellecour in a gigantic dusty red square right in the middle of the city centre, just north of the Ainay district.
The Bellecour Square is always open and usually bustling. During the day, you can admire views of landmarks such as the hilltop Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière; at night, the square is lit up and great for photos. The Bellecour Square is occasionally the site of local protests; it’s best to avoid the area when particularly crowded.
