Pocahontas County is a county located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,869. Its county seat is Marlinton. The county was established in 1821. It is named after the daughter of the Powhatan chief of the Native Americans in the United States who came from Jamestown, Virginia.

A county that has called two states home, survived multiple wars, and now sees millions of visitors every year. Even before Pocahontas County was officially formed, early European settles arrived in 1749.
Pocahontas County, in eastern West Virginia (WV), was created in 1821 from parts of Bath, Randolph, and Pendleton counties and was named in honor of Pocahontas, the daughter of Wahunsonacock, chief of the Powhatan Indians. Its county seat is at Marlinton.
Cranberry Glades —also known simply as The Glades —are a cluster of five small, boreal -type bogs in southwestern Pocahontas County, West Virginia, United States. This area, in the Allegheny Mountains at about 3,400 feet (1,000 m), is protected as the Cranberry Glades Botanical Area, part of the Monongahela National Forest.
