Poprad is a city located in northern Slovakia, in the Prešov Region, at the foot of the High Tatras Mountains. It has a population of approximately 55,000 people and is an important economic and cultural center of the region.
Poprad. Poprad is one of the most important cities in eastern Slovakia, thanks to mountain tourism – it is the administrative, economic and cultural center of the Tatras region. Poprad essentially came into existence in the 13th century, when the king of Hungary invited German colonists to settle in a region of isolated farming.
Its area is 63 km². It is the 10th biggest town in Slovakia and the largest town of the Spiš region. Poprad is an important economic, tourist and cultural center of the Spiš region. The river Poprad flows through the town with its small tributary Velický Potok. Poprad is called “gateway to High Tatras“.
