The Porsche 914 or VW-Porsche 914 is a mid-engined sports car designed, manufactured and marketed collaboratively by Volkswagen and Porsche from 1969 until 1976. It was only available as a targa-topped two-seat roadster powered by either a flat-4 or flat-six engine.

Oct 30, 2019 · 1970–72 Porsche 914/4. RM Sotheby’s. The first of the four-cylinder cars used an 80-horsepower 1.7-liter flat-four 411E engine from the Volkswagen bus. It hit 60 mph in a leisurely 13.7 seconds, seven seconds slower than the 911 of its time.
At the time of its launch, the 914 was available with two engines. 914: 1.7-liter flat-four engine with 80 hp from Volkswagen and the 914/6: 2.0-liter flat-six engine with 110 hp from the Porsche 911 T.
The power is produced by a dry sumped naturally aspirated engine of 1.7 litre capacity. This powerplant features overhead valve valve gear, 4 cylinder layout, and 2 valves per cylinder. It develops 79 bhp (80 PS/59 kW) of power at 4900 rpm, and maximum torque of 133 N·m (98 lb·ft/13.6 kgm) at 2700 rpm.
