An Eircode is a seven-character alpha-numeric postcode. Each Eircode is unique to a postal address and its geographic location. Over 35% of addresses in Ireland share their address with at least one other property, making it difficult to find the location of a specific address.

In July 2015 all 2.2 million residential and business addresses in Ireland received a letter notifying them of the new Eircode for their address. [4] Unlike other countries, where postcodes define clusters or groups of addresses, an Eircode identifies an individual address and shows exactly where it is located.
Getting an Eircode. For an existing address. To date Eircodes have been assigned to over 2.2 million addresses. All Eircodes can be found on the Eircode Finder, a public website that allows you to search for an Eircode by address or by finding a property on the map.
Eircode is the national postcode system in Ireland. An Eircode is a unique 7-character code consisting of letters and numbers. Each Eircode consists of a 3-character routing key to identify the area and a 4-character unique identifier for each address. A typical Eircode might read A65 F4E2.
There is no one official address for any location in Ireland and many versions of an address can exist such as geographic, postal, electoral, or historical addresses. The Eircode Finder contains the geographic and postal address, both addresses are provided to us by An Post GeoDirectory.
