After the summer growth season, trim back Coreopsis cultivated as a perennial. Reduce the plant’s height by one-third to one-half. According to the University of California Cooperative Extension, pruning should not reach into the older brown woody growth, as this could destroy the plant.
An excellent performer, award-winner Coreopsis verticillata ‘Moonbeam’ (Threadleaf Coreopsis) is a compact perennial forming a gorgeous mound of finely divided leaves. Blooming continuously from early to late summer, it gets covered with a profusion of 1 in. wide (2.5cm), buttery yellow blossoms.
Coreopsis ‘Moonbeam’ is a particularly lovely cultivar, bearing pale yellow flowers with a darker centre, from June to September. Perfect for growing at the front of sunny borders or as part of a container display, it has a compact habit and feathery, fern-like foliage.
